It was the day of a million doctor visits…

Monday was a busy day. We had to drive to CHOC to get the results of Little T’s MRI, then we had to drive to the neurologist in another city to go over the results, and then we had to drive to another hospital to visit the burn center. It was a doctor extravaganza! That last sentence makes it sound a lot more fun than it really was, doesn’t it?

There was good news all around! Little T’s MRI came back and everything was great and just like it’s supposed to be! This means he’ll most likely grow out of his hypertonia and there aren’t any serious underlying issues. We thought this would probably be the case because of how much he’s improved, but it’s nice to have the medical documents to reassure us.

At the burn center, Little T was having a great time in the lobby. Now that he’s walking, it’s like he’s discovering a whole new world. His new favorite thing to do is to walk around and point and shout “look!”

Here’s what he wanted me to look at in the lobby:

The flashing exit sign:

A teddy bear:

And a few toys on the table:

We circled the room and he shouted for me to look at the same things over and over again. He’s such a cute little baby.

The burn center took his bandage off and said he had healed up. Isn’t it amazing that skin can grow so quickly? Little T felt his finger, bent it back and forth, and stared at it for the longest time after they took the bandage off. The doctor said he was a smart kid. I might be biased, but I agree, heh heh.

It’s so strange…

halloween, monster, monster story

Little T wasn’t himself this morning.

All he wanted to do was make mischief.

When I asked him to say “momma”, he gave me a great big roar instead.

When I asked him what he wanted to eat, he said “blocks and snails and puppy dog tails”. 0_o

He chased the cats all over the house.

And stomped on top of the city that Big T built.

I finally pulled him aside and said, “Hey Little T, what’s with the attitude?”

“Isn’t this the way you’re supposed to act on Halloween?” He asked. I had to explain that we had a while before Halloween.

“OOOOohhhhhhhhhh,” he replied.

He felt really silly.

“Don’t feel bad,” I said. “Something tells me that Miss Piggy didn’t get the memo, either.”

Redecorating

If you pay our household a visit, you might notice some things are different around here. You see, Little T pulled me aside the other day and said he thought the house needed a few small changes. I want to be supportive of his endeavors, so I replied that the world (or house) is his oyster, and followed him around to document his attempt at interior design.

He took a look at Big T’s movies in the hallway, gave his head a little shake and said it was all wrong. He decided to scatter the movies into more appropriate places so the house would be filled with a little more color.

The washing machine needed the most help:

Now it looks much better:

Next stop was the fridge. The magnets definitely looked a lot better on the INSIDE of the fridge. Why didn’t we think of that? Genius!

After the fridge, we crawled over to the doggy door. Once again, everything looked better on the outside of the house. He threw out a shoe, his bottle, a toy spider, and a toy car. I had to ask though, what happens when it rains?

I guess we’ll have to figure that out later.

Little T decided to stick with the dog theme, and moved over to Piggy’s crate next (she likes to go in there to hide from the cats). He knows how much Piggy loves food, so he dangled a carrot from the top.

After the carrots, Little T made a stop at the dishwasher. He tilted his head to the side and thought to himself for a moment. He finally declared that the dishwasher was fine, just the way it was…but could we wash one of his spoons for him?

The spoon thought this was a great idea…(but seriously, that spoon kind of creeps me out. He’s way too happy).

After that he had one more change to make. I don’t think I can support this one. Sorry, Little T. Even Mommy has her limits.

I mentioned earlier that Little T has mild hypertonia. Yesterday, he had his evaluation with his new occupational therapist. She is going to work with him on holding crayons, eating food with a spoon, snapping buttons, putting puzzles together, and anything else that requires fine movements. I loved her and I’m so glad she’s going to be working with us! She gave Big T and I a million different activities to do with Little T so we could develop his fine motor skills. One of the ideas she mentioned was putting blocks in a bowl of dry beans, so we could work with Little T on pulling the blocks out.

I mentioned this activity to Big T. He said, “How are we going to do that? It sounds messy.”

I told my Mom over the phone. My Mom said, “won’t he eat the beans?”

I, on the other hand-said, “That sounds like fun! I think I’ll try it first thing tomorrow morning!” *cue ominous thunder and lightning*

This morning I sat next to Little T on the floor and presented the bowl. I put in the blocks and covered them with the lentils. Little T was hesitant at first. He was scared to touch anything, so I gently took his hand and put it in the bowl and showed him where the first block was. His face immediately changed from fear to pure bliss, as he started to swish his hands around the lentils.

“Uh, Little T. You’re supposed to get the blocks out,” I reminded him. I took a block out to show him and encouraged him to try.

Instead of grabbing the blocks, he started swishing the lentils around so hard they began to fly out of the bowl. I instinctively protected my eyes from the spray of lentils coming my way. Little T then decided the lentils were more fun on the floor, and poured the entire bowl across the room.

Naturally, at this point, I stopped him so I could clean up the floor.

Who am I kidding? I went and grabbed my camera and photographed the chaos.

Well, I have some cleaning to do. It might take me a while to finish. You see, Little T’s not the only one who gets to have fun around here.  😉
